{Thai House}

By The Travelling Tastebuds (Visit website)

Hello from Thailand!!!  hehe… JUST KIDDING!!!  Oh how I wish I were in Thailand right now… riding on those adorable little scooters… taking in the breathtaking sites.  Girl can dream… right???  I grew up going to Thai House… since I was a wee’ one.  And I have the most fond memories of the owners and the food.  Since then… the restaurant has changed hands more than a few times… and the interior decor has also changed quite a bit.

:love: the entrance!!!

I was surprised at how dark it was in the restaurant… it felt as if the restaurant was closed.  The TVs were off… half the lights were off… it was certainly cozy… but it also felt lifeless.

These gorgeous umbrellas belong in my cocktail drink!!!  :)

One thing that hasn’t changed are these seating booths.  Those make-shift Thai roofs have been there for as long as I remember… thank goodness!!!  I can’t imagine Thai House without ‘em roofs!!!

My beverage of choice was originally watermelon juice, but that happened to be out of season.  So Thai Ice Tea it is.  It’s a sweet tea made with condensed milk and oh so sooooooo yummy!!!

As a matter of fact, these drinks are addictive.  It was hard work pacing myself to make sure the drink would last throughout lunch!!!

The food was rather disappointing… definitely didn’t live up to the hype of my childhood memories.  We ordered a shrimp and pineapple curry, garlic chicken, a tofu dish as well as crunchy squid in a chili jam sauce.

Where do I start?  The shrimp and pineapple curry was hardly curry… it seemed more like a soup than anything.  The base was very very thin and I am used to having a thick, hearty and SPICY curry.  The tofu was alright… nothing memorable or spectacular.  The garlic chicken used to be soooo good at Thai House… but for some reason the flavor just is not there.  It seems they’ve added quite a bit more onion slices in place of the chicken… which is fine by me… I :love: onions… but don’t skimp on the chicken!!!  And the crispy squid seemed to be cooked unevenly… some pieces were perfectly tender… some were vastly overcooked and tough.  It’s too bad… you can tell business has gone down since the last owner.  During lunch hour… only THREE tables were occupied… it’s a wonder how they stay afloat.

On to other news… today was a pretty good day.  Not too productive in terms of work… but I got errands done and made the most of today… so far.  I walked only a short distance {to visit a neighbor}… but I will make up for that tonight when I do my arm, abs and bootie exercises via Tamilee’s Fitness DVD.  If you haven’t already heard… I absolutely :love: this DVD.  If you are a fitness pro… it may be too basic for you… but for the rest of us who exercise to stay healthy rather than to compete… it’s perfect!!!  The challenge is enough to keep me coming back but not so much so as to discourage me.  Oh… and hopefully I can get some work done tonight.  I’m gonna have to if I wanna’ keep ma’ belly happy and my pocketbook full!!!
