15 Days to Bake Before Christmas! Christmas Pears in a bundle!!

By All about cakes. (Visit website)

I think of Christmas and I think of Sugar Plums, Snowflakes, Angels, Candles, Wishes, Good Will, Saint Nicholas, Children, all a gaze, and Jesus. I would like to roll Christmas up in a beautiful package with a great big red bow and keep it close to me all year round. It is a magical time of year, you have to admit. I come from a large family and more than once while growing up my mother and father seemed more surprised than us on Christmas morning when we came running down into the living room (All 12 of us). Where did all of that come from? That was the look on their faces. Miracles are possible. I believe!!!!!

So, just in case their are Angels visiting you on Christmas Eve, perhaps you can leave them some sweet bundles. Who knows? You could start a tradition!

!

"Red Pears in Philo Dough Bundles tied with Red Satin Ribbon"

*Red or Gold Pears Try for the ones with stems attached.
*Philo dough
*1 pound of lightly salted butter. Do not use shortening or margarine.
*Ground ginger
*Red satin 1/4 inch ribbon. 18" per pear.

You will need: 3 inch baking dish, good pastry brush, clean pair of sharp scissors.
and an apple corer. You could also use individual ramekins if you have them. Be generous with the butter when you prepare the pans.

*Red Pears are best, but the golden ones work just as well. Decide how many you want to do: 6, 12, 18 etc. Pick ripe but firm pears. Be sure they have a nice flat bottom so they will stand in the dough while they are in the oven.

Depending on how many you do will determine how many boxes of Philo dough that you will need. You can do 4 pears per roll of dough.

Wash the pears carefully. Do not remove the stems.
Core from the bottom of the pear as in the picture. Gently so you don't split the pear.
Melt the butter.
Prepare the dough by unrolling it out onto your work table and then cover it with a damp (clean) dish towel to keep it moist.

Brush the baking pan with butter, be very generous.

Now take 4 sheets of dough, brush between the sheets with butter, fold in half, place a pear in the center, sprinkle with ground ginger, pull up the corners and bundle together. Wrap the ribbon around a couple of times, not too tight and tie together, leaving the ends of the ribbons hanging down. If you want bows, cut longer lengths of ribbon. Brush again with butter.
Place in the oven on 275 degrees, middle rack, for 45 minutes.

Serve warm with whipped cream or french vanilla bean ice cream! And wait for the Angels to come!
