A Family Specialty Meal

Ingredients:

> 200 grams edible young bamboo shoots, cleaned and sliced very thinly
> 250 grams, medium sized shrimps
> okra, sliced diagonally
> gabi root strings, cleaned and cut by 2-inches long
> saluyot leaves, cleaned and shredded
> 1 tbsp. shrimp paste
> salt
> 1 whole garlic, minced
> coconut milk (optional)

Procedure:

Boil the bamboo shoots for about 30-45 minutes. Drain and set aside. In the same pot, put water in bamboo shoots and let it boil. Add shrimps, shrimp paste and salt to taste. Do not add too much salt because the shrimp paste is already salty itself. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add gabi root strings. Do not mix until it is cooked. Add okra, saluyot leaves and garlic. Simmer for another 3 minutes. Mix well . You can have an option to add coconut milk for this recipe but for this meal I choose not to. Best served hot. The slimy and yummy taste of the combined ingredients made this meal perfectly delicious.
