A foodie faux pas
The nuts and bolts of the article was the top ten food related words that are often pronounced incorrectly, for example Bruschetta and Mole, which they helpfully spell out phonetically (broo-SKEH-tah and MOH-lay respectively). It got me to thinking about embarrassing incidents when you act like you know what you’re talking about when in fact you don’t. Or the fact my aunt still to this day can’t say the word profiterole. When I first hooked up with Mrs F I wined and dined her, well a quick meal here and there would be more to the fact, but one of the first meals we had I ordered a bottle of what I thought was red wine. I have no idea what kind it was now and all I know is that I was convinced it was a red, the waitress came down with a bottle of white which she had opened before I’d noticed. I explained I’d ordered a different wine, telling her the name. She went away and came back with the menu, I duly pointed it out again, saying that’s the boy, that red there. In fairness to her, she was very polite in making me feel like an ass when she pointed out that the white wine in her hand was exactly what I’d ordered and in less cruel words basically called me an idiot. What’s been your most embarrassing food faux pas ? whether it’s mispronouncing something or just being an idiot like me? related searches : Foodie
