A Very Expensive Haircut

By Her Honest Life (Visit website)

This is my detox weekend - sort of. For the last few days, I have not had the best eating habits. I've been eating out a lot and consuming a lot of white flour, white rice, fat and other non-desirables. I've definitely felt a difference in my body, so I decided to take  a few days to get my system back in balance. I also knew it was going to be a social weekend, so my goal was to balance my mornings with my social nights - ok, so it was only a social Saturday, but still.

Yesterday morning (and this morning as well) I started my day with my detox smoothie. It's lighter than my usual cooked breakfasts, but it's full of fiber to keep me going and help eliminate previous foods out of my system (that's code for pooping). Oh, and it's super yummy!

Strawberry Detox Shake

Put the following ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth:

1 banana
5 strawberries
2 fresh, pitted dates
1/4 c cashews (or other nut of your choice, like almonds)
1/4 c firm silken tofu
1/2 c non-dairy milk
1 splash lemon juice

Anyways, after my shake I went on a long walk on the Burke-Gilman trail and then rushed off to the mall to meet my friend Marie for a day together.  We drooled over new fall boots at Nordstroms for a while before grabbing a drink:

nordstrom.commmm...leopardy. I'm really excited about the idea of sky-high boots with a flat heel. I will keep my eyes open for these at the next semi-annual sale.

After drinks Marie had to go to the salon to get her hair did. I was left to my own devices in the mall for two hours.  I was barely out the door when an adorable kid working at the nearby tea shop snagged me with a free sample. It was a mate chai blend and it was delicious. I let super eager happy tea kid talk me inside to buy some tea.

Please excuse the shitty cell phone pics. If this was a decent camera, you would be able to see just how lovely this tea is. Is it lovely enough for the $20 I plunked down on a bag? We'll see.

After tea I hit up Barnes and Noble's because, like Jello, there's always room for books. I knew I had a bit of time to kill, so I grabbed a variety of reading materials and plunked myself down in a chair.

That's the latest issue of Foreign Affairs magazine, The 30 Minute Vegan, Clean Food and The No Om Zone. I picked up the No Om Zone because I recognized the author, Kimberly Fowler, from the yoga videos I used to do in high school a bazillion years ago. I read thru most of the book while I was in the store. I decided to buy that one and Clean Food.

After the book store I realized I needed yoga gear to go with my new book and, lucky me, there was a yoga store near by! I bought a new tank (on sale) and a yoga mat and then headed back to the salon to wait for Marie. At the end of this I had spent around $200 (and I'm only counting mall time - I'm not documenting my pre-mall Target trip). But these were all necessities, right?

I browsed thru Clean Food and I am so very excited to make something from it. Maybe for dinner tonight.

This morning I put on my yoga gear and did a quick workout with my new book. It felt great. Here's a crap cell phone pic of me looking sweaty in new tank while holding new mat:

Let's agree to no more "makeup-free" pictures, shall we?

I'm off for a hike today at Wallace Falls to take advantage of this fabulous weather. Time to go pack some snacks!
