Almond Croissant Smack Down #5: Ken's Artisan Bakery
This was my second attempt at research. The first attempt, being a late Sunday morning, Ken had sold out of his almond croissants. I returned on a Monday, late morning to find plenty of sugar snow dusted beauties lined up for the taking. Ken's almond croissants ($3) are better than the majority I've sampled over the last month and a half. For one, the croissant dough is flaky with lots of air pockets. The almond filling is high quality: real almonds - with their skins on - suspended in a cream base spiked with something reminiscent of almond liquor. Wait, is that booze in my croissant? I like it! Because of the delicious and very homemade filling (NOT marzipan) and airy-fresh croissant dough, Ken's Artisan Bakery almond croissant has a solid 2nd place in the Smack Down standings. 1.
