Almond Croissant Smack Down #7: St. Honoré Boulangerie
I managed to squeeze in some vital almond croissant research before I started fasting for Greek Orthodox Lent, hitting up St. Honoré Boulangerie in Northwest Portland. I'd heard good tidings all the way around and was eager to check out their goodies in my due diligence quest for Portland best almond croissant. I biked across town on a Sunday afternoon. The place was packed mostly with older peeps looking like Kohl's weekly flyer models. I was worried they'd be sold out, but the bakery is in check with their constant crowd so props for almond croissant availability. I ordered an almond croissant and black coffee. The croissant was looking overly brown. Insert frown here. I ripped it in half and the pastry broke like a crusty french baguette, not like a dainty buttery flaky croissant. The sparse almond filling was a snore of the century spin off of marzipan. The entire croissant tasted like a slightly sweet baguette. Overly disappointing, especially for bragging about having a master baker from Normandie. If you're in the neighborhood, better off going to Ken's Artisan Bakery. New almond croissant rankings below! 6. St. Honoré Boulangerie St. Honoré Boulangerie 2835 NW Thurman St. Portland, OR 97210
