Almost Like Vintage - New Pyrex from Commercial "Cooking Solved"
Is the 50s kitchenware back in vogue? I noticed that Target started stocking new Pyrex inventory. The same items that are featured in the Pyrex "Cooking Solved" commercials. These are rectangular refrigerator dishes with glass and plastic lids reminiscent of the vintage ones that I'm trying to hunt down for my own collection. According to Pyrex Love, the refrigerator dishes were originally introduced in the 40s in primary colors - red, yellow and blue - and later expanded to include the wide range of Pyrex colors and pattens that became available in following decades. These are so lovely and functional with the interchangeable lids. Wish they came in colors again. Robin's Egg blue would be nice. I wonder what gadgets and products World Kitchen, the owners of the Pyrex brand, has coming out next. Perhaps Cinderella mixing bowls? And if you haven't already seen these yet, the Blue Cornflower designs have made a comeback as well. World Kitchen has re-introduced the popular CorningWare pattern using the same Pyroceram glass-ceramic materials originally developed by Corning Inc. in the 1950s! The CorningWare website explains how their pieces are just as important in today's kitchens as it was half a century ago: "Originally targeted toward working women who wanted to cook, set an attractive table, and get out of the kitchen fast - with as little clean up as possible, this durable break and chip resistant glass cookware/bakeware is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago."
