Annakut at Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

I believe food brings people together and in case of Annakut (a mountain of food) at the Swaminarayan temple in Milpitas California, it brings together thousands of people! My friends and I have made it a tradition to visit this temple every year during it’s Diwali celebrations. We look forward to dressing up in Sarees and fine jewelry, wishing each other Sal Mubarak (Happy New Year), and enjoying the mela-like atmosphere together. The festive atmosphere lights up our faces with smiles and fills our hearts with a genuine feeling of goodwill towards all.

During Diwali, the amazing variety of foods and its tiered display  at this temple is nothing less than spectacular. From exotic desserts called mithai to basic food items such as vegetables and daals, every prasad that’s offered is a culmination of a devotee’s love and creativity.  The Annakut offers a great meeting place for people with similar cultural background and goes a long way in fostering a sense of community.
