Today I will share a recipe I created for our special furry friends. I believe animals need to eat healthy just like humans. Several weeks back I began developing 52 ways to use Greek yogurt. Well, today will be the fifth way.
When creating a new recipe, sometimes things can change several times. For example, I started off thinking I would use peanut butter, and never did. That is the beauty of just going for it, and having fun in the process.
I had to mince the medium apple with a cheese grater. Make sure to grate the skin too, it contains most of the fiber. It is important for animals to get enough fiber in their diet- as they age fiber becomes extremely important.
After mixing each ingredient, except water, it will look crumbly. Then add water to bring dough together.
The dough is pretty sticky, but still manageable. Make sure to put whole wheat flour on surface where you will role dough out. I didn’t actually use a rolling pin, I just pressed out the dough with my hands. Try to press out dough to about a 1/4 inch thick. The cookies do not expand when in the cooking process.
You can get some really cute cut-outs for making the cookies. I have a fire hydrant, house, small bone, and large bone.
Time to bake them! I have a gas stove, so I cooked them for 20 minutes. Depending on oven, cook until crispy, there will be a little give to them.
Don’t let the babies have one just yet, they need to cool first. They are very tempting though, the cinnamon and apple aroma is intoxicating.
Success! My sweet little girl Ode’ loved them, she had it gone before I could get a perfect picture.
The recipe:
Pre-set oven to 375 degrees F
1/2 cup of Greek yogurt
1 medium apple minced
2 tsp agave nectar
1/2 to 1 tsp cinnamon
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats, or quick oats
1/4 cup safflower oil
1/2 cup water
Spray pan with cooking spray
Bake treats for 20 minutes, or until crispy
Makes about 44 cookies
If you would like to order any treats for your furry friend please let me know. They are a fun gift idea for the holidays, or to say thank you for pet sitting your babies.
Just like any treat with no preservatives, these treats with last about a week. If you would like to keep them longer, put some in the freezer, or refrigerator till ready to enjoy:)
Until next time, Come on in, Have a seat,
Hugs, Terra
