Austin Restaurant Week, Market Reminder and a Query
I'm always up for a good deal and right now you can get a great deal and many local restaurants. Austin Restaurant Week began this week and continues next week (March 8-11), during which you can get a $25 or $35 3-course meal at over 40 restaurants.
The list includes places like Aquarelle, Judge's Hill Restaurant, Jeffrey's, and others where you would be hard pressed to normally get one course for $25. If you like a great bargain, start making plans now! And, of course my favorite part, is that a portion of the proceeds benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, one of the nonprofits I care deeply about. On the note of nonprofits I care about, here is a quick reminder about the special market event at the Downtown Austin Farmers market on Saturday. The event is from 9 am to 1 pm and you'll get to sample food from some of the best chefs in Austin - all made from market ingredients. There is a race downtown on Sunday on Congress so come at the market from 1st street/Guadalupe or the west side (Lamar). I'll be volunteering from 9 -11 at the Austin Farm to Plate table, so come by and say hi if you have a chance. Finally, I read an article recently in Ode Magazine by Amy Domini, the head of a social investing fund, about fast food places. Her point was that by investing in fast food companies, we could work to change the dynamic of their waste particularly around packaging. It was interesting. I personally avoid fast food like the plague, but I know there are local places, like P. Terry's that do a good job of providing quick, fresh food and pay attention to sustainability. So my question to you - what local fast food restaurants do you frequent that are sustainably focused?
