Avocado Fries ? Yes, Fried Avocados

By My Man's Belly (Visit website)

avocado fries, fried avocado, avocado recipe, fried foods, national heart health month

Yep, I know…we American’s LOVE LOVE LOVE our fried foods.  And to prove it, we’ll fry anything: oreos, twinkies, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream and the list goes on and on.  Fried food has pretty much been considered “white trash” for as long as I can remember.  Of course fried chicken, french fries and onion rings aren’t on the white trash list, they’re just good ol’ American menu items.

While I’m generally not a huge fan of fried foods (most of the time I just don’t like the taste of the oil they’re fried in) I have found a soft spot in my heart (and belly) for a recently discovered fried foods recipe: avocado fries.  Yes, you read that right…fried avocados (done up in french fry fashion).  I don’t know where they’ve been all my life, but they’re a yummy part of it now.  They’re all crispy/crunchy on the outside and creamy smooth on the inside.  They’re kind of like a warm version of chocolate coated ice cream bar (in concept that is).

I’ll confess, I didn’t make these as a stand alone item or even as a side dish.  No, this avocado recipe was destined to be a bit player in a larger dish I was making (that post will come later – I promise).  But I have to admit, these completely stole my heart and have hijacked my brain ever since eating them.

Since February is National Heart Health Month, I thought I would also give you a few more reasons to feel good about eating this avocado recipe.

Mono and polyunsaturated fats, when eaten in moderation and instead of saturated or trans fats can help reduce cholesterol levels and help decrease your chance of heart disease.  Avocados are one the fruits that contain both of these good fats.  Avocados also contain high levels of lutein, which can help keep your body from absorbing cholesterol.  They also contain lots of folate, something else that can help protect your heart.

So dig into that plate of fried avocados and make yourself feel better (all the way around).

Relationship Advice

Occasionally I find myself flipping through the 100′s of channels, on satellite, and marvel at how with all of these programming choices I can find nothing to watch but some movie from the 80′s.  I suppose I should be happy that I can at least find something to watch, but it would be nice if I could find something from the previous decade to watch.

Of course, watching one those movies from the 80′s takes me back to my celebrity crushes.  We’ve all got ‘em.  So let’s take a look at mine and see what my life might have been like if any of my “perfect man” fantasies had been realized.

Celebrity-Crushes

Charlie Sheen – Portrayed as a tough guy with a roguish sense of humor.  Current reality: 3 time rehabber, porn connoisseur (pornstar connoisseur), 5 kids from 3 different women, teeth that make Jack Sparrow look like he’s got the teeth of Pat Boone and a bank account that’s larger than what’s in the coffers of most countries.

Tom Cruise – Portrayed as sexy hot in movies like Risky Business and Top Gun.  Current reality: The reportedy 5’8″ actor has ventured into 3 marriages, has 3 children and is deeply involved with Scientology.  His current marriage, to Katie Holmes, was reportedly handled in the way most films are cast.  A list of actresses was laid before him and he began holding “auditions.”  Regardless of the validity of this, it doesn’t seem that hard to believe when you consider it’s a Hollywood marriage.  Oh, and let’s not forget that he was willing to be branded a “loon” for jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch and proclaiming his love for Kate.  Um, yeah, that’s pretty weird (if you’re over the age of 8).

James Spader – Portrayed as a rich, cocky, drug dealer and/or sex addict with big ol’ bedroom eyes.  Current reality:  Has acquired more than a few extra pounds as the years have passed.  He’s been pounding the hardwoods of New York instead of filling up the celluloid cans and the bedroom eyes have most recently been used on William Shatner.  In true Hollywood fashion he has fathered a child with his girlfriend that is 11 years his junior.

So when you start to question the one you’re with, and fantasizing about your old Hollywood crushes, do a little searching on Google.  I can almost guarantee you’ll be feeling a whole lot better about your reality.
