Bobby?s Hawaiian Style Restaurant

By hapa bento (Visit website)

The first thing you’ll notice about the food at “Bobby’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant” is the lack of greens!  Unless of course you order the lau lau!   But I’m not complaining…it’s the nature of Hawaiian-style food and it’s delicious!

Our recent houseguest no longer lives in the islands so we  surprised her with  lunch at a local “local” spot!

But it took us awhile to find the place because we didn’t know that it had moved.  We drove around and around until we finally gave in and “googled” it’s new location!  :)

It’s  right on Hwy 99, naturally!  It’s a cute little diner that’s tastefully decorated with mementos and hints of the islands.  Not  kitschy grass-skirts and ukuleles!  Mellow Hawaiian music plays in the background and there’s a reach-in refrigerator where you can select your own slice of guava, passion-fruit or haupia (coconut pudding) cake!

Since our guest is also 50th State expat, it was fitting that we ate somewhere that would remind us all of our former home.

So many menu choices to stir one’s Hawaiian-food  cravings…. what to order, what to order?

A  “Loco Moco”!

Seen in the photo above, it’s a hamburger patty topped with over-easy fried egg then smothered in brown gravy.  Eaten with white sticky rice “one scoop” mac salad ?it’s the epitome of  the working-man’s meal.  Well, a working-man in Hawaii anyway!

Saba Man gave his “thumb’s up” and a “shaka-sign” after finishing off the last grain of rice.  “No carb left behind”.

The photo at the top  is of crispy and golden mochiko chicken; also served with the standard mac salad and rice.   A very popular dish back home, our guest was in mochiko chicken heaven!

Hey, it looked and smelled so good that  newly arrived customers looked our plate of chicken and said “we want what they’re having!”

Not much on Bobby’s menu for a vegetarian like me.  So…what did I eat?

The guava cake of course!  Sorry no photos…we dived in before realizing we missed the photo-op!  We’ll remember the next time, now that we know where the place is again!
