Breaking the Bad News
I'm glad today is over. I don't normally like saying or thinking like that (every day is a gift!), however since I had to tell 4 people that their place of employment will cease to exist a year from now. I'm glad it's behind me. Lots of questions were asked of me, and the truth is I don't have all the answers. I also don't want to instill false hope that positions will be available elsewhere. One of my physicians said to me yesterday, "welcome to the corporate world," and I have to say that I'm not enjoying this side of business. However, as well all things, you have to take the good with the bad. I feel secure in the arms of the Lord, and I know that His Will is always supreme--even if it is a bit uncomfortable at times.
Right when I got up this morning, I hit the road for 5 humid miles. My average pace was 9:06/mi. The air was thick, and my legs felt like logs, but it was still a good run. I thought about my current work situation the whole time, so the miles went by pretty quickly. While I was running, breakfast was chilling in the fridge: Overnight oats: 1/3 cup old fashioned oats1/3 cup nonfat kefir1/3 cup coconut milk1 tsp chia seedsStrawberriesDrizzle of gallberry honey (best kind of honey) I spent most of my morning prepping for my bad news delivery. As I was reading in Zechariah at lunch, chapter 13, verse 9 really struck me: "This third I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver, and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people' and they will say 'The Lord is our God.'" I am by no means going through a fire, but it's so comforting to read verses such as this when times take a downward turn. I couldn't help but get a huge smile on my face as I read those words. The Lord knew I needed that verse today. As I stood at my fridge during my lunch break, I had no clue what I wanted, so a rather random assortment came together: In the bowl: 1/2 cup canary beansGuacamoleYellow pepperChipotle sauceOn the side: Zucchini slicesCarrotCauliflowerLeftover hummus from 3 different containers I mixed the ingredients in the bowl together and it came out looking rather horrid. Most of my meals end up that way ;). It tasted good though. I've said this time and time again, but I love Mexican food. The bowl had a little bit of a Tex-Mex theme going on. At least in my mind. On top of having to tell the staff about the closing of the clinic, our network was down all afternoon again. All of our issues (closing of the clinic and network issues) have to do with a new company buying the Shands hospitals in Lake City, Live Oak and Starke. I'm ready for the interferences and changes to stop! On top of no computer to do work and no internet to play on, my Blackberry decided to play games with my heart and not connect to the internet either! I was able to do a little bit of work without a computer, but mainly resorted to playing the only game on my Crackberry, Brick Breaker, for most of the afternoon. For dinner tonight, I made Thad and myself two separate meals at exactly the same time. I got skillz! Sloppy joes and baked beans for him, whole wheat ravioli and steamed broccoli for her. Aren't the purple heated lights cool? We paid extra for those when we bought our stove. We thought it would give off a cool black light type feel in our kitchen. It's also supposed to heat up quicker than regular red 'burners'. I'm totally joking about the purple lights :) The camera's flash turned the red heated areas to purple for some reason and I just thought it looked neat! I had high hopes for this ravioli. I haven't had pasta in ages, but I've eyed this package of ravioli for quite some time. I finally picked some up at Publix and the taste was just ok. The basil flavor was pretty non existent, and the cheese tasted a bit like cardboard. There were several other flavors to chose from, and Thad commented that they looked good, so I'll probably try a different type next go round. Speaking of Thad, it's time to make good on a promise I made to him on Sunday night to play Xbox with him. Hooray.... :)
