Chafing Problem

By Meals and Miles (Visit website)

Don?t ask me how I did it, but somehow I managed to train for three marathons and one ultra marathon with little to no chafing. Sure, there was the occasional rub point that would bother me on one long run and disappear on the next but, rarely in the same place and rarely anything worth noting.

Unfortunately this time around I haven?t been so lucky.  It?s not one tiny spot ? it?s one large spot between my inner thighs and that spot seems to rub itself raw every time I run.

I?m not sure if it?s the extra sweat from training in this heat and humidity or the extra few pounds I?m carrying around this go around, but I have a definite chafing problem.

Ouch.

(p.s. it is surprisingly difficult to take a photo of your inner thigh.)

So, what?s a girl to do? After a bit of research I?ve found I have a couple of options.

Wear longer compression shorts/capris that prevent my thighs from touching each other on runs
Befriend an extra large tub of Bogy Glide before each run and hang on for the ride

As I don?t have money for a complete new running wardrobe, it looks like I am going to have to go with a mix of the above options. I need to start wearing longer compression shorts on my longer runs specifically and become very good friends with the tube of body glide before, during and after my runs.

I?ve also heard the best treatment for chafe marks is to rub the spot down with some vitamin A + D. I need to get onto that too.

Do you have problem with chafing? Any advice on how to prevent/treat it?

A 7 mile tempo run was on the training plan for this morning. My legs were tired and it wasn?t the best tempo run I’ve every completed, but I survived.

It?s amazing the difference between running on tired legs and running on fresh legs feels like. I have my first 5k of the season this weekend and today?s run really reminded me that if I want to run a great race then I need to let my legs rest and take a couple days off before hand. Rest does a body good. :)

Breakfast

It had been a while since I had an waffle egg-which with jam. During the summer I usually crave something cold for breakfast, but as fall and winter draw closer I see a lot more of these on my plate.

Served with a fresh plum and figs.

I spy with my little eyes a cute little nose checking my breakfast out.
