Chic & Green In the Kitchen: Christmas Eggnog

By Chic and Green (Visit website)

Today I would like to share with you my most favorite eggnog recipe. It is called Mama's Eggnog and is a Paula Deen recipe from the Food Network website.

This is something I make when we have family and friends over for the holidays. WARNING--raw eggs may not be safe, so use caution and make sure your eggs are properly refrigerated, clean, in tact, and not past their expiration date. Pregnant women and others may want to avoid raw eggs.

I serve these in my eggnog mugs--they were $0.69 each at the Salvation Army!

Ingredients
6 eggs, separated
3/4 cup sugar
1 pint heavy cream
4 pints milk
1/2 pint Bourbon
1 tablespoon vanilla
Nutmeg
Directions
In a bowl beat the egg yolks with the 1/2 cup of sugar until thick. In another bowl beat the egg whites with 1/4 cup of sugar until thick. In a third bowl beat the cream until thick. Add the cream to the yolks, fold in the egg whites, and add the milk, Bourbon, vanilla, and a pinch of nutmeg, if desired. Chill in freezer before serving.

Serve eggnog in a large punch bowl.

My Notes: I like to use spiced rum (such as Captain Morgan) as opposed to the bourbon. I also make one bowl without alcohol and it tastes delicious anyway! I use 1% milk for the milk portion.
