Cleopatra's Rubies

By Foodie Wife vs Hungry Husband (Visit website)

I cannot tell you how much I adore pomegranates. Such a graceful fruit with a ton of history. It symbolizes health, wealth, and fertility. Of course, It helps that the arils look like rubies reminding me of ancient Egypt and Cleopatra... This fruit makes my imagination run wild. If you're lazy, then you probably find the pomegranate too much work (like hungry husband)... He doesn't love the taste when I throw them in salads but he will drink pomegranate juice. I, on the other hand, love it in spoonfuls, on salads or alone.

The easiest way to separate the arils from the skin is by splitting the pomegranate in a bowl full of water. The arils fall to the bottom and the white shreds of skin float to the top. It is mess and fuss free. Then you have a massive bowl of red rubies ready to enjoy!

Yes. Hungry husband isn't a big fan of the fruit but if you have a juicer, fresh pom juice is truly delicious. I wonder how pomegranate jam would turn out. I think that's an experiment with my name written all over it.

So I salute the sophisticated elegance of pomegranates, even if hungry husband doesn't approve!

Enjoy!
