Cocktail Recipe of the Day : Gin Fizz with a Twist

By My Man's Belly (Visit website)

gin, cocktails, classic cocktail recipe, classic cocktail, infused gin, gin cocktails, gin fizz

The Gin Fizz is another classic cocktail recipe that is delicious as is, but change it up with some infused gin and you’ve got a cocktail with wings.  As you’ve no doubt figured out by now, I can’t leave well enough alone when it comes to classic recipes.  Don’t get me wrong, I relish a classic angel food cake, blueberry muffin, peanut butter and jelly as well as a good ol’ glass of champagne.  But sometimes you just want to take that classic recipe and pinch it’s cheeks just a little.

After my blueberry infused vodka (aka blueberry pie martini) post I heard from lots of people who loved the recipe, like infused vodka but didn’t realize how easy it was to make at home and some who were looking for other infused spirits to try.  The ‘other infused spirits’ intrigued me and my brain started spinning. (That spinning brain thing of mine sometimes is a good thing – contrary to what Craig thinks.)  My friend @bakerstreet29 (aka Anuradha) asked if I had done anything beyond infused vodka since vodka wasn’t something she was particularly fond of (I overlooked this breech in our friendship because 1-it’s a very minor thing and 2-she bakes.)  Oh, did I mention that she lives in Bombay, India?  I love the internet and all of the international people I get to meet (and have physically met some of them).  She also promised to send me a recipe for my favorite Indian dish – chicken tikka methi. <swoon>

Off to the liquor cabinet I went and through the refrigerator door (my own personal looking glass) to find my chosen cocktail ingredients.  I seem to have an affinity for ginger (could it be because I too am a Ginger?) and since I had decided to use gin for my infusion I thought it would be a perfect match.  Then I grabbed the strawberries because those pair well with ginger and juniper (one of the major flavor components of gin).

I decided that the cocktail recipe I would be using this magical gin in would be the gin fizz.  The classic cocktail gin fizz recipe is gin: powdered sugar: lemon juice: and club soda.  It’s a very simple yet refreshing libation.  The addition of the fruit and spice flavors would leave the basic premise of the cocktail intact, but give it a subtle yet tangy zip.  Between the strawberry flavors, the tang of the citrus and spice and the bubbly club soda it’s a really refreshing twist on another classic cocktail.

Relationship Advice

Today’s advice is pretty simple and straightforward.  I mentioned above that I overlooked the fact that Anuradha didn’t like vodka, and I do.  (I was kidding – it doesn’t bother me at all.)  Well, the same holds true in your relationship with your significant other – or potential significant other.  While you both have lots of similar likes and dislikes, because if you didn’t you wouldn’t be together (duh), sometimes you need to be flexible in what you consider to be a deal breaker.

You want kids, he doesn’t – deal breaker (don’t plan on being able to change his mind on this)

You live in New York, he lives in Florida – deal breaker (long distance relationships are not a long term option, eventually someone needs to move)

He likes his big overstuffed chair, you don’t – not a deal breaker (furniture can be moved)

He likes red wine, you like white wine – not a deal breaker (open 2 bottles)

Bottom line here is not to sweat the small stuff.  There is always room for compromise on these smaller things.  I’m always amazed when I hear a woman say “I can’t date him because he eats with his elbows on the table.”  Or some such nonsense. (Yes, I have really been told that by a woman who shall remain nameless – but you know who you are.)  If you need to make excuses like that for not wanting to date someone there’s either a bigger issue that you don’t want to admit or you’re 22 years old and you can be that picky about little stuff because you just haven’t learned enough about life yet.
