Cookbook Review and Give-away: Vegan Unplugged by Jon Robertson with Recipes by Robin Robertson

By The Blooming Platter of Vegan Recipes (Visit website)

In his latest book, Jon Robertson proves himself to be the kind of guy you want around when the lights go out.

Not so fast...that's not what I mean. In Vegan Unplugged, Robertson, an author and the publisher and editor of Vegan Heritage Press, provides everything you could possibly need to stay safe and extremely well fed when life leaves you without electricity or just precious little. The nearly 200 pages of indispensable information, written with warmth and wit, is a dual cookbook and "Emergency Preparedness 101" guide.

Robertson and his wife Robin, author of over 20 cookbooks, blogger and a regular contributor to VegNews, learned these lessons the hard way courtesy of Hurricane Isabel when the couple lived on the coast of Virginia. But their lessons can be applied to plenty of other domestic situations from being home sick with few groceries and even less energy to dorm- and hotel-living where good vegan options may be few.

The Robertson's approach to eating like kings when disaster strikes is based on the "Five Day Meal Box," but doesn't stop there. This compact book packs together "The Five Day Menu" and grocery list, information about various options for heating food, mouth-watering recipes, a comprehensive "Emergency Preparedness Guide," an annotated list of resources, and much more practical information.

Gourmet meatless and dairyless "Pantry Cuisine" recipes like Thaiphoon Tofu Stir-Fry and Pasta with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce and Walnuts, courtesy of Robin, prove that just because you've lost your electricity, doesn't mean you have to lose your mind at mealtime.

When you have to batten down, Vegan Unplugged will help make sure you're stocked up.
