Culinary Escapades: MayFair in Harvard Square.
The Annual MayFair in Harvard Square: Where dapper, intellectual charm meets FRIED DOUGH. These young gentlemen caught my eyes as the poster boys for my friend Foster's blog .Young, spruce, all-American men with something to say and broken glasses. But these gentlemen were not the only ones drawn to the beacon of fried dough. This little sugar addict was camped out in front of the powder sugar station; vigorously finishing of every last particle of sweetness as only a kid can.....(not that I CAN'T, mind you. I just have been prohibited from doing so by age, friends, and disapproving glances.) (If you look closely you can see a pinpoint of sugar decorating her nose.)I (as unbelievable as this may sound) was in the market for something a bit more savory than a plate of powdered sugar. But in the way of open-air festivals, the market was flooded with greasy bites that I knew would have me jealously eying sugar-girl's paper plate. Chez Henri to the rescue! This business savvy bistro, wisely set up a stall on the street and blew those dubious looking burgers right out of the water with their made-to-order pressed Cuban sandwiches. I knew I couldn't go wrong with roasted pork, ham, and cornichons, slathered with aioli and pressed between to slices of bread. And, in fact, it was finger-licking-good. I pitied the crazed woman next to me, who claimed to not like pork. I can understand religiously motivated disdain for pork, but unmitigated distaste?? All I can say is: Don't knock it, before you've tried Chez Henri's pressed Cuban. Chez Henri Shepard Str. 1 Cambridge, MA 617-354-8980 (directions) related searches : Culinary
