Cute As A?
I was back home in the one Canadian city anyone outside the country actually seems to know about this week XD. It was a nice little vacation that allowed me to catch up with people i haven’t seen for months, and that’s always nice, right? A friend and I took an opportunity to indulge our maturing, classy sides by attending a lovely soirée at the BSM, which got me thinking. Food-wise, what’s more classy than tea (accompanied by the stereotypical crumpet, of course)? So, in keeping with the classy trend, that’s exactly what I made…
I followed the recipe on The Cooking Route, using whole-wheat flour. I figured I should deviate from the excessively sweet and go for more healthy after the past couple of posts =P. One thing I can say about this recipe is that the batter definitely improves with age. It may just be the way I mixed it, but the ones I made after an overnight ferment tasted rather baking powder-y. The ones made a day after that, though, had a lovely flavour, and a more bubbly surface. Although less bubbly/holey, these crumpets were lovely and soft, with none of the rubbery texture of their store-bought counterparts. And so easy, too! I believe that tea is something best enjoyed when you sit down and designate time to it. It’s one of those things where you slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, you know? Which is something it seems people don’t do often enough. So butter yourself a crumpet, pour a cup of tea, and watch the world go by =).
