Day Five: Susan G. Komen, Bake for the Cure Praline Cake

By Kitchen Belleicious (Visit website)

Today is Day 5 of Bake for the Cure and I am getting fat! There has been so much baking up in here that I think my husband's gonna flip over our next electricity bill. I feel like the oven has been on non-stop for 2 weeks now! LOL!

Before we begin talking about the recipe I want to stop and just thank you all for your support. It has been overwhelming to see each of you leaving comments on the post and trying to help me win this contest. I never in a million years thought that you all would take the time each day to stop by and help. I truly feel like you are my friends and I am so very grateful to have you apart of my life. Words can't really express how I feel right now but please know that I am extremely grateful. I only wish I could bake each of you something and bring it to your home but since I obviously can't do that, then I will do the next best thing and give you the most incredible heart-warming cake you have ever put in your mouth! Make this for someone you would like to thank or someone who needs a little pick me up and their smile will say it all!

I so hope you enjoy this post and recipe today! I only have 1 more recipe to post after this one and I am neck in neck with another blogger. Please HELP ME and leave a comment on this post and if you haven't already leave a comment on the last 4 posts that you will find below. I appreciate your time and support and don't forget each comment gives you the chance to win the Bake for the Cure Pink Prize which included a pink silicon muffin tin, pink baking mat, utensils, bake for the cure cookbook and ACH products! Love you all to pieces!

I wanted to kick off the last week of Bake for the Cure with something that truly reminds me of home when I was a little kid. We all know I am from the South and one of my fondest memories is visiting my grandmother "Nanny" at her church for their weekly church picnic's and dinners. Let's just clear the air a minute- I love to cook and I feel I am pretty good at it. I am sure ya'll like to cook as well and I am sure your good at it- BUT there is nothing and I mean nothing like a meal or dessert made by a older southern church lady. They have this special touch. It's like magic or something. Get southern ladies together to throw a shower or tea and you have the most amazing food at your fingertips. They might be sassy and prissy but a southern ladies signature is her cooking and they are expected to meet high expectations.

Well, one of those expectations is pralines. If you have never been to the South I can promise you that you have heard of and probably even tasted our famous pralines. They are a succulent caramel-like candy loaded with pecans and sugar. Only one thing could be better than a southern praline and that is a southern praline coffee cake! Yep, you heard me. A moist, rich and creamy Praline Coffee Cake.

I thought of doing the peach streusel coffee cake for one of my last Bake for the Cure post's seeing as how I needed to make a recipe out of the Bake for the Cure cookbook but I knew I needed to add a twist to it. I rummaged through a bunch of my grandmother's old cookbooks (my go to handbooks) and that's when I found my inspiration. Homemade Praline Icing. I thought to myself, let's do a praline coffee cake with the texture of a coffee cake, the taste of pralines and the look of a three tierd dessert. Basically, I just doubled the ingredients in the Bake for the Cure recipe for Peach Streusel Cake and added a few new ingredients and Pronto! Magic!

Can you smell it? The smell of homemade caramel sauce with pecans simmering away and the smell of a buttery brown sugar cake lingering from the oven? When I was done with this cake, I took a step back and was immediately brought to the last Southern Tea I attended back in my old hometown in Louisiana. I could just imagine it sitting there on the tables covered with lace and pearls with a dainty hand serving each slice! I bet I would have made those Southern Ladies proud! Here is to you Nanny and all those Southern women I watched growing up with your famously wonderful recipes and the lessons in cooking ya'll have taught me over the years!

Speaking of cooking in the kitchen. What is your dream kitchen? It shocks me that I have never discussed this with you all. I mean for pete?s sake my name is Kitchen Belleicious. If you didn?t know better one might assume that each day I cook in my fabulously dreamy kitchen with ever appliance I could ever possibly need with the birds chirping outside the window and the smell of cookies everyday! NOT!

Don't get me wrong, I love love my kitchen to pieces. It is my favorite part of the house and it's perfect just the way it is. In fact, there are so many things in it that I would incorporate into my "dream kitchen" one day. I like to dream and when I dream I dream BIG! I am curious though to know what your dream kitchen is. Would it have lots of light shining through the windows, would be made of brick and stone with a rustic feel or modern and sleek being all white?

All of this leads me to the coolest thing I recently found. It is called polyvore. Basically they have tons and tons of images for you to create your own "look" whether it be fashion, food, home décor, etc. It?s like all the fashion pages you see in magazines like Elle and Glamour where they show you matching pieces suitable for the fall. I am not going to go through ever detail of my amazing dream kitchen but Ms. Belleicious took it upon herself to stop cooking one day and have some fun. I made up my own little dream kitchen with a pink touch to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. I hope you like!

Kitchen Belleicious Dream Kitchen

I love the simplicity of the kitchen with the white paint but with the wood beams and all it has a rustic/cottage feeling. I always have to have fresh baked treats on hand for unexpected guests and of course, I MUST have two of my favorite prints by Red Letter Words hanging up in the kitchen. I chose the pink one in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. I think it is inspirational and reminds us all to keep calm and carry on! I chose the Hope Is An Anchor because I always like to have the Lord's words near to me and since I am always in the kitchen its the perfect place to hang it. You all know where to find pearls, dishes and appliances but if want some fabulous art like the ones above for your kitchen or home just visit Red Letter Words. Her work is amazing and you won?t be able to leave without buying something. Hey- just tell your husband that it is either this print or a new kitchen? I am sure he will agree with the print! LOL! She also has her daughter Kelly working with her and she is beyond sweet. She helps write for the Red Letter Word Blog and you must go by for a visit. BONUS: I have received a discount code to give to all my readers that gives you 15% off of your next purchase (excludes custom prints and print of the month) at Red Letter Words. Just enter the code KITCHEN.

Okay girls, I just wanted to do something different and fun today along with the Bake for the Cure Post. I hope you all like my kitchen and my Praline Coffee Cake recipe. Please make sure to help me out and leave a comment. I only have 1 more recipe for the contest and I am so super super nervous. I need your help to win and it is as simple as leaving a comment on my bake for the cure posts. Love ya'll and thanks so much for your support!
