Classes are officially in gear as my first quiz is tomorrow! I'm not nervous about this one since math thus far is pretty similar to chemistry last year. I am a little nervous about my first product knowledge quiz on Friday though! I've basically been out of my room since about 11 am. I woke, walked to Farq to get some fruit for my room, then came back and went for a 6.5 mile run. My legs were feeling pretty tight and still are but it was nice to just run alone and zone out to my iPod. I went slower without the person to pace with but it was still nice. I think I would have gone slow today regardless. In between classes today we went to a diner to review math and have lunch, then I watched some videos for product knowledge (well I'm finishing one up now). Then it was our assigned dinner at 5:30 and Intro to Gastronomy, which is an interesting class! Pre-run snack: I picked at a pretzel I got in Farq and some of a gnu banana walnut bar. I like the cinnamon raisin flavor better. It has a banana scent but does not taste too bananany...its not bad though. Breakfast: I got some oats soaking while I went out running. I basically soak them to avoid microwave oat explosions! In the mix: 1/3 cup 5 grain blend cereal 1 banana 1 tablespoon flax cinnamon topped with honey roasted cinnamon pb and later some agave granola Lunch: Turns out this diner up the road was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives! Thats fun! I got the chicken and portabella salad which was served with a tomato basil vinaigrette. I was happy to get my veggies! The vinaigrette was interesting in that it had actual chunks of tomato, I liked it. Dinner: Amuse: Italian sausage in squash surrounded by roasted red pepper sauce 1st course: Hand rolled mozzarella with prosciutto and field greens 2nd course: Grilled veal chop with morel sauce, gratin potatoes, and spring peas with leeks. I'm not a huge veal fan. The taste does nothing for me and I don't like the production method. It was prepared well however. Dessert: Chocolate pot de creme. The "skin" on top is my favorite part :) Extras: We did a tasting in Gastronomy today. We talked about food aversions so we first wrote down if we liked the sight and smell and then the taste. Afterwards we found out what all the items were, I guessed some right :) Going clockwise: raw pumpkin seed butter; crystallized ginger; pickled loroco flowers; dulse flakes; chana dal; and carob chips. Surprisingly even though I love raw pumpkin seeds I wasn't big on the pumpkin seed butter. I think it was its grainy texture but the taste was fine. I also liked the taste more once I knew what it was and then the taste became apparent. I believe there might be an announcement tomorrow so stay tuned! Wish me luck on my first quiz! Did you all like the fact yesterday? I liked Diana's suggestion of doing one a day so I think that might become the "randomness of the day." Sound good? Randomness of the Day: I had no idea about this...but horse is a delicacy in France! And just for fun...a little buddy biting away in the tree across from my window this morning...
