![]() Good Evening! We ended up having one of our fun days in the city, kind of like Curious George goes to the City. We have been two museums, lunch at Katz's Deli, bought two new pairs of running shoes at Betty Sport and topped the day off with dessert at Delish Cupcakes and popped into Whole Foods for a few groceries. ![]() Lunch was my hubby's pick. Steve loves New York style deli's and gets a hankering for a good pastrami sandwich every once in a blue moon. He misses the L.A. deli scene, such as Canter's, Jerry's Famous Deli and Al Langer's. He picked Katz's Deli on 6th Street. This is a true New York style and was quite cute as well. ![]() When Marc Katz opened Katz Deli in 1979, and introduced New York deli cuisine to Austin, the local restaurant scene would never be the same. Katz's extensive menu of New York deli classics and traditional Jewish kosher-style cuisine, for example, virtually set the stage and led the way for the explosion of ethnic food restaurants that followed Katz's into Austin in the 1980's and 1990's. I must admit that I am not a huge New York deli fan but if it was up to me we would go to Leaf. I am dying to try this salad only restaurant and will make it one of these days. As for today, I ordered a Turkey, Avocado, Tomato and Cucumber sandwich on Pumpernickel. (as you can see, the bread order did not happen but at least it came on whole wheat). The sandwich was very good and I was very hungry. Turkey, Avocado, Tomato and Cucumber Sandwich ![]() Emmet ordered Potato Latkes. He LOVED these. ![]() Zoe ordered the Buttermilk Pancakes which were delicious but she discovered she too, like Potato Latkes. ![]() Steve ordered a Turkey Pastrami Rueben, he has eaten a lot of deli and he was impressed by the fact that the sandwich was not doused in butter and was not fatty and greasy. It was quite tasty. ![]() The kids really wanted to go to the Austin Children's Museum, so we headed over there after a quick stop at Bettysport for new running shoes. I usually buy the Asics 2180's but was not happy the last time with those, so expanded my repetoire by trying out the Asics Gel-Kayano and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS. I am going to switch shoes every day to extend the life of the shoes as well as help out my feet. The kids obviously had a great time at the Museum. It is a cute museum and we have been to birthday parties and field trips there. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We stumbled upon Delish around the corner from the Museum and I have been reading about how great these cupcakes are so we had to stop and give them a try! ![]() In May 2009, Delish opened it's doors in the popular 2nd Street district located in downtown Austin. While gourmet cupcakes and other tantalizing desserts are made from scratch in the back, customers can enjoy a cupcake and a chilled glass of milk in the comfortable, yet stylish seating area or choose to sit outside, sip on a french pressed coffee and watch the people and the city go by. ![]() Lemon Zest Light lemon cake accompanied by a lemon zest buttercream garnished with candied lemon zest. ![]() S'more Chocolate cake atop a graham cracker crust bottom topped with a toasted merengue. ![]() Wow! The cupcakes were amazing. If you like lemon, then the Lemon Zest Cupcake is one of the best. The S'Mores was truly incredible and probably was our favorite but hey, these are cupcakes and they were all good. A very fun day and I look forward to having another one tomorrow. Have a good evening and I will check back in the A.M. related searches : Delish
