Erachi Puttu / Steamed Rice Flour with Meat Mixture

I saw this recipe on Amrita Tv - Taste of Kerala - Cookery Show and tried it. It turned out delicious and we all loved it!

Ingredients:

For Puttu:
Raw rice/Rice flour :2cups
Grated coconut :1cup
Cumin Seeds/Jeerakam :1-2 pinch
Salt to taste
Water : to sprinkle

For Meat Masala:
Minced Chicken :1cup
Fennel seeds/Perunjeerakam :2pinch
Shallots/Small onion/Kunj ulli :10-15nos (finely chopped)
Ginger :1/2tsp (chopped finely)
Garlic :1/2tsp (chopped finely)
Green chillies :3nos or according to ur spice level (slit lengthwise)
Red chilly Powder :1/2tsp
Coriander Powder :1/2tsp
Turmeric Powder:1/4tsp
Gram Masala Powder :1/2tsp
Curry Leaves :A sprig
Salt to taste
Oil :1tbsp


Method of Preparation :

Preparation for Cooking Puttu :

1.Mix salt in water.
2.Sprinkle the water little by little to the rice flour,add jeerakam/cumin seeds and mix it well,just to make the powder wet and smooth (Do not sprinkle a lot of water; It should neither be too wet nor too dry)and keep it aside.

Preparation for Cooking Erachi/Meat Masala:

1.Heat oil in a pan,Add fennel seeds,chopped ginger,chopped garlic and saute for a minute.
2.Add the chopped onion and saute till turns to translucent,now add curry leaves,green chillies and all spice powder and saute till the raw smell goes.
3.Add the minced chicken; keep stirring until everything is mixed properly and
cook till chicken is done.



Preparation for Cooking Erachi Puttu:

1.Mix the cooked chicken mixture with puttu flour and mix thoroughly.
2.Now add a fistful full of grated coconut in the puttu maker and then add the mixed chicken-rice flour till half, then add another handful of coconut. This is done till you reach the top.
4.Close the lid and steam for 4-5minutes or until the steam passes from the top of the puttu kutti.
5.Serve hot and enjoy!!!
