Famous Dave's BBQ

Famous Dave's

Recently on a trip to visit my mother in New Jersey, we all had a hankerin? for barbeque. With a limited selection in our area, my mom threw out the idea of going to Famous Dave?s BBQ, a multiple award winner for their ribs.

Walking in I expected about as much as anyone going to a barbeque food chain. They had the typical tacky flare, such as a huge arrow hung from the ceiling and wooden animal carvings in the lobby. What pushed it over the edge was the little light bulbs that accented the deer antlers of the specimen that was attached from the ceiling in the dining room.

The sitting area was a large open room with wooden patricians separating it into areas as to cut down on the expansiveness. The tables were close together and the chairs slightly uncomfortable. The large room also catered to the echoing of cranky children attempting to get attention.

Although they had a great selection of delicious original sauces, my favorite being the peppery Texas Pit sauce, they were placed in a spot on the table that felt as if they were closing in on you.

Surroundings aside, the food was spectacular. I ordered the two meat combo with rib tips and chopped pork with my two sides of mashed potatoes and baked beans. The huge portions of food filled me up but I couldn?t stop eating. My mom?s brisket was a touch dry but the Texas Pit sauce was the perfect condiment as per our waiter?s suggestion. Her side of potato salad also hit the typical barbeque spot.

I found the proteins to be delicious, but the corn on the cob was cooked to oblivion, leaving it mushy. However, the way I rate a good barbeque place is how good their cornbread is. With any entrée, you get a cornbread muffin that was actually incredibly delicious and moist. Props to you on the cornbread Famous Dave?s!

Needless to say I have been craving the rib tips ever since I licked the last drop of sauce off my fingers. Next time I might just order it to go instead!

If you are in the area of one of Famous Dave?s establishments, close your eyes and dive into the delicious barbeque goodness. It?s chain barbeque done right! Enjoy your carnivore grub!
