Feel Happy Food
I have always enjoyed revel bars since I was a kid. A revel bar is basically a chewy, bar-type cookie loaded with fudgy filling or topped with nuts or whatever the baker fancies. Since revel bars are quite simple to make, they’re staples in bake fairs and key goodies in family gatherings [or maybe just MY family's.
As I checked out the offerings of Kantina, the latest overnight food bazaar situated near the parking area of Market Market at the Bonifacio Global City [which I will elaborate on via a separate blog post], I was thrilled to have found out that MedChef had a stall there. [To refresh your memory about MedChef, you may read what I have written about it HERE and HERE.] Timing was impeccable as Francis and I just had dinner at Bistro Better before going there. We craved for dessert as what we had earlier that night was a letdown.
Kantina officially starts selling at 10pm and by then we were already scouting for some sweet stuff. Around that time, we caught many concessionaires, including MedChef, still setting up and preparing to open. While waiting, we roamed the area, looked over the rest of the stalls, and took pictures. In the slideshow and photos below are Medchef’s booth plus some of the cakes, pastries, and confections up for sale.
Francis and I were torn on getting a whole order of the bestseller, Bread Pudding Crème Brûlée [P190] or assorted bars which are at P100 for three. In the end, we opted for the bars. We have tried the bread pudding before anyway. Since we can choose any three bars/cookies for just P100, we picked a chocolate revel bar, a cream cheese brownie, and a white choco oat cookie. And can I just say, we couldn’t have made a better choice!
The Chocolate Revel Bar was Francis’ favorite among the three. It was considerably chewy and crunchy [because of the walnuts] at the same time, extremely chocolate-y, and saccharine. Its size was generous and well-worth its price. Francis loved it! I find it a little too sweet for my liking, though.
The Cream Cheese Brownie was incredibly fudgy. It had an ample top layer of cream cheese that was smooth on the center and crumbly on the sides. The slight saltiness of the cream cheese balanced out the cloying chocolate layer, producing one delightful treat with flavors in perfect proportion. It had a wonderful texture that my mouth truly luxuriated in. [And I am not exaggerating at all.]
Among the three, it was the White Choco Oat Cookie that won me over. It was big, crisp, and had the right sweetness. It gave off this enticing aroma that was successful in luring me to gobble it up in seconds. Chef Hasset did not scrimp on ingredients as this contained a generous amount of oats and large chunks of white chocolate. On my first bite, the taste of cinnamon greeted me and eventually the buttery oats and the rich white chocolate made their presence felt. It was soooo good!!! The white chocolate chunks actually tasted like hard yema. It was enslaving, I swear. I’m planning to get more tomorrow night.
These seductive slabs of sweetness and the other treats by MedChef are too yummy to be missed. You should try them… and share with me your opinion on the cakes and pastries. I would love to hear from you.
You may catch MedChef at Kantina every Fridays from 10pm-8am and Midnight Mercato every Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm-3am or visit the MedChef flagship store at 139 Mother Ignacia Avenue, Quezon City any day
