Fennel Apple Martini Clean Detox Style

I know what you’re thinking…she quit…she’s back to her old ways.  Look at that martini!  I’ll admit it, I was definitely challenged this week.  I want a glass of wine in the worst way (not vegetable juice).  I spent Monday and Tuesday in Las Vegas and it just wasn’t the same without sitting at our favorite place with drink in hand and people watching.  But what you are looking at is a fennel apple martini – the clean detox way (aka a virgin martini).

I shared this vegetable juice recipe with you last week, but veggies aren’t the only thing that tastes great juiced.  I’ve been concocting lots of fruit juice recipes too.  Some of my favorites have been a combination of fruits and vegetables, like this one.  The combinations of sweet and tangy have ranged from horrible to amazingly delicious.  Something that I’ve noticed while concocting the various detox juice recipes is how different some of the vegetables taste when they’re juiced.  It’s really been a fun time in the kitchen (sometimes a bit messy – beet juice stains clothes and tile) while working on these various juice recipes.

Apple-Fennel-Martini

The sweet and tang of the fennel and apple in this juice is perfect all on it’s own.  To make it a bit more festive (and allow me to feel like I was being a little bad), I rimmed a martini glass with finely ground almonds and topped it all off with a slice of lemon.  With it’s light Spring green color, you’ll feel like you’re drinking a margatini minus the alcohol of course.  But, if you’re having a party this would be perfect for those looking for something non-alcoholic or, for those looking for a little extra kick, add some vodka.  I promise you you’ll need to make enough for everyone to have at least 2.

Relationship Advice

Why are people so hell bent on saying that Brad Womack was the worst bachelor EVUH just because he didn?t pick a girl?  Did they not see the other seasons that ended in a proposal only to find these people making the headlines of police blotters and tabloids for reports of abuse, cheating and using one another for fame?  I can’t really say that I believe Brad was the smartest bachelor ever (because if he was that smart he never would have gone on the show in the first place), but I would say he was the smartest one to appear on the show.

I suppose the first time he was on, he was looking for his 15 minutes of fame, trying to impress a girl back home, or was looking to get a lot of “high quality” strange.  How could you fault him if those were his intentions?  That’s the reason why 95% of guys join a fraternity when they go to college. The only difference is that on the show they don’t show him doing a keg stand and the girls doing so many beer bongs that they puke all over the place.  So did he really do any of those girls wrong by saying he didn’t want to propose to either of them?  Rejected girl Deanna Pappas is engaged and is now a television personality (instead of a real estate agent) and Jenni Croft is married.

It’s shows like this that make some women go crazy and start planning their wedding, the number of kids they’re going to have and the house they plan to buy with a guy they’ve only dated for two weeks.  They look at the 6 week dating time span (on the show), see that there’s roses being handed out and ultimately a ginormous diamond ring for one “lucky” lady at the end. It is “reality” television after all.

But now Brad (and those other guys dating women who watch this show) have all been convinced that they are bad and deserve to be punished simply because they didn?t propose to a girl they’d known for a month.  Call my a cynic, call me a kill joy.  I suppose it’s possible for Bachelor Brad to find the love of his life from a pool of women that literally come straight out of central casting and have known each other for a half season show, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
