FFwD: Savory Cheese and Chive Bread {w/two additional bread recipes}
What is the saying, “Time flies, when your having fun!” Boy does it EVER, whew the last two months have been crazy. Last week I decided to pull out my bread machine, and enjoy some homemade bread. I ended making two different breads, and then read this weekend what we were to make for French Friday’s with Dorie. Yes, Yes, I know…today is now Monday….but I made it right? Bonus! I am really excited I did, it was a totally different recipe then I expected (in a positive way of course.) Now of course you remember, I can not share the actual recipe with you. However, I highly recommend this gorgeous book, “Around my French table” by Dorie Greenspan. The French Friday’s with Dorie community is making their way through the book, one delicious recipe each week. The Savory Cheese and Chive bread is normally made in a loaf pan. In France, anything in a loaf pan is called Cake. What we made this week would be called Cake Sale’ (which is a salty or savory cake.) I decided to cook the bread in a mini muffin pan, just for fun. Dorie does share that the recipe is similar to a muffin recipe, and prepared the same way. The bread is not meant to be moist, so you have to be prepared for the difference in texture. The taste is not overpowering, so you could always add a few ingredients to kick it up some. The bread would be perfect with soup, or marinara sauce. It is good alone, too, or with some butter, but is generally served with something like an aperitifs. Now because the theme was apparently bread week last week, here are the two other recipes I made. The first recipe is a sweet bread I actually created, and hoped would actually turn out. Score, hubby really, really enjoyed it! I also have #20 in my 52 ways to enjoy Greek yogurt. Do you remember Chobani sent me samples of all their new lovely flavors? Well I really wanted to make banana bread with the Honey Nana Champion’s flavor. Sooooo…I made Banana Cardamon Bread, YUM! Banana Cardamon Bread Recipe: 3/4 cup mashed banana 1/2 cup milk 3 Tbsp salted butter 4 oz Greek yogurt 1 tsp salt 4 cups bread flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/4 tsp cardamon 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 pkg of dry active yeast 1/2 cup pecan meal, or chopped pecans With bread machine recipes, you put all the wet ingredients in, then add dry ingredients. Once dry ingredients are added, then make a well in dry ingredients, and add yeast. Then you set the timer for sweet bread time. I will probably set it for basic setting next time, there was a small area in the bread that did not completely cook through. I bet you could use this recipe, and still make the bread the old fashioned way, by kneading it. Just follow what the directions are for a bread recipe that calls for the bread to be kneaded. You could also add more cardamon if you like, I love the taste of the cardamon. The second bread I made was Rose’s Hearth Bread. I found the recipe on the back of the Gold Medal bread flour package. Bread made in a bread machine always makes me giggle, it looks so misshapen. Rose’s Hearth Bread Recipe: 3 1/3 cups bread flour 1/4 cup whole wheat flour 1 1/2 tsp salt 1 pkg of dry active yeast 1 1/3 cups water 1 tsp honey Same as above, add wet ingredients to bread machine, then dry ingredients, then make a well in dry ingredients, add yeast. You should be able to also make this bread the old-fashioned way I am sure, have fun exploring if you don’t have a bread machine! What is your favorite type of bread to bake? What is your favorite bread to enjoy? Until next time, Come on in, Have a seat, Hugs, Terra related searches : Ffwd
