Foods That Can Help Fight Breast Cancer - Anti Cancer Recipes
Today, Meg Wolff, a writer for the Huffington Post, posted an article "What We Can Do About Breast Cancer." Meg Wolff, a two time survivor of cancer (bone and then advanced breast cancer) changed to a plant-based diet 12 years ago after doctors gave her little hope upon going through all the traditional medical treatments. Meg believes changing to to a plant-based diet saved her life. In her post today, she shares a lot of important information, including the following: Women who eat a plant-based diet live longer than those who eat more animal foods. In one study, the consumption of foods high in fat, including dairy products, was associated with shorter survival among women with breast cancer. Simply eating more vegetables each day was associated with lower rates of breast cancer recurrence.A study found that women who ate an additional 1,000 calories above their optimal calorie levels experience an 84% increase in the risk of breast cancer recurrence.Estrogen levels are a critical determinant of breast cancer. The larger and more numerous the fat cells, the more estrogen a woman's body produces; estrogen can trigger the over-production of tissue and inflammation inside the breast and uterus. Eating a high-fiber diet helps keep estrogen levels low.A plant-based diet is low in fat, rich in fiber, and abundant in cancer-fighting chemicals. Cruciferous vegetables are among the most protective vegetables. Plants contain antioxidants, which help boost the number and agressiveness of the body's primary cancer fighter, natural killer cells. If you have breast cancer or know someone who does, here are some recipes to get you started, many of which I've made for my friends with breast cancer. These recipes include what I like to call anti cancer ingredients. In many of my posts, I try to include information on anti cancer ingredients that are in the recipes. Please note that when cooking for people with cancer, using organic produce is strongly encouraged to reduce exposure to chemicals. I've also included some informational posts on cancer-fighting foods. Please share your experiences by commenting below. Also, if you need any help with recipes, let me know. I love to experiment and my passion is cooking for people with cancer.
