Friday Food Finds

By Pens, Pans, and Puns (Visit website)

Mabuhay Bloggers and Readers!

Stuck in bed for hours and got sick again (ohh the sudden weather change, but love it anyway), so hubbylito did all the cooking these past few days, except for when we had a suprise visit from a couple of friends who are getting married next month, only that I made some pastas and bought some prepared roasted chicken for lunch (trust me, we Pinoys don't devote much time in roasting chicken. They're so many available rotisserie everywhere, like in every three blocks, and I can say that buying roast chicken is like Chinese Takeout to us). But don't get me wrong, I do roast sometimes.

Anyway, as much as I want to blog everyday and everything about food and great finds, it's just not my thing to write short, short randoms (well, it was!). Aaaand, as much as I wanna give a very informative blog,  but who does wanna read a long, boring blog... So I have decided to make a weekly great random Food Finds that will be posted every Friday or Saturday.

Something Fishy Breakfast Buffet
(Libis, Quezon City)

Breakfast Buffet that is more like of a After-Party-Supper. Aside from their popular Seafood cuisines, the restaurant has also been known for its affordable Filipino breakfast buffet. I remember it was like 84 pesos ($2) a couple of years ago (and now, for 129 pesos). Breakfast is served as early as 12 in the midnight till 9am.

After my hubbylito and I attended an oldschool rock gig/reunion with our common friends, I suggested the place, if they wanna eat bigtime at an affordable price after boozing. The buffet menu includes classic Filipino breakfast and merienda such as Daing na Bangus, Pancit Malabon, Longganisa, Tapa, Adobo, Okoy, lugaw, ginatang bilo-bilo, sorbetes, kakanin, and other extras like pancakes, scrambled eggs, hotdogs, and sausages. For 129 pesos, you can say that it'all SULIT...

S&R's Roast Chicken
(The Fort)

Yup, I know, prepared roast chicken. Before you scold me that roasting chicken is easy and is a very staple dish in every American kitchen, first of all, like you, and I repeat once again, we Filipinos order our roast chicken just like you order your Chinese Takeouts. For the reason that it is less time and effort consuming. Not every Filipino household has a big oven, I don't have a big oven in my dorm. And it doesn't matter to your family and friends whether you bought it or roasted it your own. Roast Takeouts are usually served to guests who happens to visit you by surprise (yeah, surprise! We didn't prepare dinner), and also a great "pulutan" (food accompanied with liquor, usually beer).

Sizzling Tofu
(Max's Resturant)

This is by far the best tasting tofu dish I had in my entire culinary experience. I am not exaggerating. I know that taste is subjective, but the thing that I just can't get enough of this. If all the tofu and veggie meat dishes would be as mouthwatering as this, then I wouldn't mind converting into a vegetarian.

The sizzling tofu has a slight of a meaty sisig flavor with some creamy, buttery, cheesy taste that I just can't describe as to what other spices and ingredients they added to transform a bland soya curd into something intensely rich, flavorful and savory.

Amazing Cones
(Robinson's Galleria)

Pizza and Burger in a cone. Weird isn't it? But at least not as weird as the Burger-in-a-can.

The Special Cone Oven

We stumbled upon this foodstall inside Robinson's Galleria on our way home. Just got intrigued by the way they serve their burgers and pizza so we ordered the Feisty Fajita and the Pizza burger. The Fajita is really good, the chile, spices and real flavors are there, but the burger was just kinda ordinary to us. With small chunks of beef and some common pizza sauce.

A perfect condiment for my Feisty Fajitas - Habanero!

Pizza cone is the answer for the people needs to "eat and go", without
the hassle of dripping and spilling food on oneself or anywhere else.
Just be careful in eating it, the filling is piping hot.

Pinoy Ice Scramble / Skrambol
(SM and other Malls)

Yes, its back! But not the dirty scramble from the streets. You can actually buy it in local malls like SM. The long queue of young adults and middle aged people caught our attention (Yes! This is a classic street food from my age bracket, oh boy). Ice scramble is made of shaved ice with vanilla and pink coloring, topped with skim milk, drizzled with pink syrup (definitely not strawberry) and  Hershey's Brown Cow (see how classic the ingredients should be, if its not Brown Cow, then its not the real thing). Suprisingly, it did taste like the old, classic scramble, just minus the filthiness and the Brown Cow.

Blushing Cupcakes
(SM Skygarden)

Cup-occino...mmmm!

Remember my food review about BLUSHING CUPCAKES? We went there for the second time and bought the same buttercream and cookies with cream cupcakes. We tried two other flavors, the Cup-ocinno and Vanilla sundae. Really sweet, dainty, and decadent in a very low, low price!

Watch out for next week's amazing finds!
Enjoy your weekend!
