Fried Pork Chops with Homemade Gravy & 3/2 What's Cooking Wednesday

By Not So Homemade (Visit website)

I think I like pork chops best when they're fried. And these are SUPER easy to make! Plus you can use the pan drippings to make a DELICIOUS homemade gravy (made by el madre, aka my mom)!

First get some oil heating up in a skillet. Just enough to fully cover the bottom of the pan. Not too thin, not too thick. Then, in one bowl mix an egg and some milk. In another bowl mix flour and the seasonings you'd like. I added salt, pepper, cajun seasoning, season-all, and garlic powder.

Coat the pork chops in egg then flour and place in hot oil.

Cook until browned on both sides and fully cooked inside. Once finished, remove to a side plate.

You'll be left with the drippings in the pan.

You may need to add some oil if there's not much left.

Then add some flour.

Stir and cook, making a roux.

Keep stirring. It should be thick and you want it to darken.

Add some water and stir constantly.

Then get some Kitchen Bouquet and add to desired darkness and taste.

A little history... I refused to eat white gravy as a child so my mom would add kitchen bouquet to it so I would eat it.

It should be nice, dark, and creamy now.

A FAIL kitchen moment? Mom using a plastic spoon to make this. Yea, didn't work too well. We have so many spoons that look like this!

So there you have it... a simple, yet YUMMY, meal!

We served it with mashed potatoes and ratatouille.
