Furikake Chicken Bento

By hapa bento (Visit website)

I feel out-of-it.  We are halfway through  December and I haven’t even attempted a winter themed bento until today!

It’s embarassing I tellya, especially with the holiday B.O.M.B. challenge  up and running!

I have no excuse.  And even if I did, I’m sure you folks  ”don’t want to hear it!”  :P

But anywho… hope everyone is enjoying the season.

Today’s featured bento, even though you can’t tell under all the egg-white snow, is filled with fried rice.

Really.

I had no frozen bento-stash rice, only cold fridge-rice.  So you know “what’s up with that!”

The Christmas tree is fashioned from a single shiso leaf with corn kernels and chopped red ginger as its ornaments.  I added a few sprigs of enoki mushrooms and gave Saba Man instructions to mix it all up before eating.

For maximum deliciousness.

The “main event” is furikake chicken with fried tofu and baked kabocha.  More  pickled red ginger (beni shoga) to compliment the rather neutral flavored tofu.

After taking a sneak-peak at his future lunch, Saba Man vowed to wear his “Mele Kalikimaka” shirt to really get into the holiday mood!

Then we started to sing.

Mele Kalikimaka

Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say,

On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day,

That’s the island greeting that we send to you

From the land where palm trees sway,

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright,

The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night,

Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way

To say “Merry Christmas to you.”

Okay, now I’m into it.  More holiday bentos on the way!
