Halloween Cupcakes
This past Saturday was Halloween, possibly the most exciting holiday of the year. What I wanted to do more than anything was to try to revisit the Halloweens of my younger years. That meant a visit to the pumpkin patch and making Halloween-themed foods, all while in the company of good friends. After visiting the pumpkin patch, I bought white cake mix and buttercream frosting and gave Halloween cupcakes a go.
First I preheat the oven to 325 degrees. I put all of the cake ingredients into a bowl (the mix, egg whites, water and oil) and mix it all together, with the help of my roommate and her boyfriend (my wonderful assistants). Then I add in red and yellow food coloring in hopes of making the batter orange. After lots and lots of drops of food coloring (and more help from my fabulous assistants), I am left with orange batter. ![]() I then line a cupcake pan with tin cupcake tins and pour the batter about three fourths of the way into each of the tins. ![]() ![]() Next, I mix the buttercream frosting with red and yellow food coloring. It is equally as difficult to obtain the correct shade of orange with the frosting, but after lots of effort, the desired result is achieved. ![]() I wait a little more than fifteen minutes and then take out the baked cupcakes. After they cool off for around ten minutes, I ice them with the orange frosting. I then add black and orange M&Ms that I also purchased earlier in the day. ![]() And the cupcakes turned out to be...
