Hasty Bento (332)

By Adventures in Bentomaking: A Bento Lunch Blog by Pikko (Visit website)

If you haven’t yet done so, please be sure to make a pledge to enter yourself in my drawing for a Stainless Steel Bento Box. This giveaway is sponsored by Life Without Plastic.

I woke up this morning so full of nerves, so anxious to receive a call from casting that I just threw this together. I’d made teriyaki chicken last night, but since we ate it all, I just used up the last pieces of my chicken cordon bleu meatballs. Thankfully, we still had rice in the rice cooker.

I’m so glad that I’ve finally used these all up so that I can make a new batch, hopefully with more taste. I mean, these have taste, but it just needs something else. Now at least I don’t feel bad about making more before the first ones are gone.

In my haste, I forgot to take a picture of a step, but I think it’s still enough to show you how to do this.

First, add some rice and push it to the side to make room for the rest of the food. Next, I added three meatballs, but you can substitute any other type of meat here. After that I layered some defrosted edamame pods. Mine are freezer burned on the outside, so I just turned the burned side down and it looks fine. I added a small strawberry to the top right, then put a paper food cup in and filled it with cantaloupe stars.

To finish things off I embellished with furikake on the rice and three animal food picks.  All done! Took me about 10 minutes since I had to reheat food and cut up the melon stars.

The director of the Temari Center informed me that my first session bento class has filled up already with 10 registrants. I’ve been procrastinating and I still have to come up with designs to teach and stuff, along with the shopping guide and gift bags. Session II is still open, so if you’re interested, please sign up!

Crossing fingers, crossing fingers, crossing fingers! Please call, please call, please call!
