Health Care Bill, Meet Basic Eating
So what does the monumental health bill that was just passed this week mean for the world of basic eating? Will we all see organic french fries coming to our local McDonald's, and a 10% tax on artificial ingredients with no clear health benefit? Maybe not, but there is a bit of something in there for the basic eater. According to Huffington Post:
"Chain restaurants will be required to provide a "nutrient content disclosure statement" alongside their items. Expect to see calories listed both on in-store and drive-through menus of fast-food restaurants sometime soon." Can it be true? Who got that clause inserted in the bill? Assuming this survives the final process this is good news in the spirit of full(er) disclosure. Let's hope that some of the shocking statistics convince folks to change their ways, or better yet, the fear of bad press leads the chains to change their ways! Read the full story here.
