Homemade Blackberry Jam

By Korean American Mommy (Visit website)

I love going to my local farm to pick fresh fruit. My mom, auntie and grandma would take us to local farms and we'd pick cucumbers, peppers, basically whatever we didn't grow in our little garden at home or in front of our restaurant, we'd find at the farm.

Since my son was born, I find its important to show him simple things like where our fruits and produce come from. I'd ultimately like to have my own garden one day. I think my love would get a kick out of seeing the fruits of his labor hehe.

My neighbors sons recently told me that they have a little garden in their back yard. The boys were telling me a bunny rabbit has been breaking into their yard and stealing their strawberries. How cute is that? They go out every morning to water it and check on the progress. I'm sure they feel a sense of accomplishment. Actually, I know they do. You should see the excitement in their faces when they tell me stories of their garden.

Giving your child a simple and educational task such as gardening truly enables them to learn not only about biology but the importance of caring and nurturing, even a plant. And hopefully they'll use what they learned and apply it to life.

I found this very informative webpage on where you can find local farms to pick your own fruits. The site also showcased a step by step tutorial on how to make jams and jellies. I had to improvise as I did not have all the items listed to make my own jelly/jam. All I had was the pectin, fresh blackberry and jars. I did not remove the seeds in the blackberries.

Please click Pick Your Own for the full tutorial and find out where you can pick your own...

The jam went perfectly with my French Baguettes. Look at my love, he loved it! My first jam session. teehee. We'll be enjoying ours for months to come. Enjoy!
