Indian street food
Currently in the middle of packing?we have so many boxes, and I really, really hope they fit in our {seemingly} tiny moving truck and 2 cars. The roommate?s sister, C, has been spoiling us by coming over and making lunch. Her latest creations: ham and cheese sandwiches with mustard greens and cauliflower lentil soup. C is really creative and studied in France this past year; I think she should start a blog, no?
On Monday night, I was treated to a taste of India at Smita?s house. Another friend had just returned from Greece and made this delicious salad with tons of feta cheese, cukes, tomatoes, and Kalamata olives.
The theme of the night was Indian street food or food you might find vendors selling by the roadside. Smita said that these dishes are typically prepared at amazing speeds and served immediately. This dish featured various veggies and fresh cilantro over crisped rice cereal topped with two types of Indian chutneys. It was like eating veggie rice krispies {kinda}, but it was really delicious and light.
This dish was composed of crackers topped with the same vegetables and crispy noodles.
This dish was probably my favorite. Seasoned beans were topped with a chickpea patty, veggies, and chutney. So good!
Here?s the cook at work with the rest of us observing. This dessert was unlike anything I?ve ever tasted. It was sort of like the Indian version of bubble tea. Cold milk was poured over ice and wheat noodles and topped with ice cream and some sort of berry syrup. It might sound disgusting, but it was actually pretty good and refreshing!
I?m really going to miss these ladies! They?ve been such a support during my time at Ohio State, and it was wonderful to have friends who were equally dedicated and interested in nutrition. Alrighty, gotta get some last minute packing done today. Thanks for your good luck wishes. It is really hard to say goodbye to my neighborhood {which I absolutely love} and the friends I?ve made here, but I?m so glad I got to spend these last couple of years in Columbus. Oh?I also saw Food, Inc. last night and will write a full review sometime soon!
