Iron Cupcake Earth: Soda Pop Entry- Orange Creamsicle Cupcake

By Maman and Gourmand (Visit website)

So here it is...and I have been thinking...this contest is more visual than edible isn't it? I mean...you could literally get a box cake to make this with some frosting in a can. 3 hours later...making everything from scratch..this is what I did...I had planned to do more decorations but I was very tired. Oh...and if I ever have a lawn ornament that includes a pink flamingo this would be it! ha..funny. Unfortunatly I couldn't find any pop rocks because that is what I wanted to create the fizz...so I just went with the flower/spring theme and made white chocolate candy clay balls for the inside of the flowers.

ORANGE CREAMSICLE SODA POUND CAKE (by Maman and Gourmand)
2 3/4 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
1/2 stick butter
1 c. orange crush (drink)
5 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. cake flour
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 tsp. orange flavoring
large marshmallows

Cream together butter, Crisco and sugar. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each. Cream until light and fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together. Add alternately with Orange Crush. Add flavorings. Add a marshmallow in prepared cupcake tins. Pour in batter till just barely below the marshmallow. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes.
Orange Swiss Meringue Buttercream (by Maman and Gourmand)

5 large egg whites
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 teaspoon pure orange extract
In the top of a double boiler set over simmering water, whisk together the egg whites, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Continue whisking until the mixture becomes too hot to touch comfortably, 7 to 10 minutes.
Transfer the mixture to the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Beat on, medium-high speed until the egg whites hold a stiff peak, about 8 minutes. Add the butter, one or two pieces at a time, beating after each addition until incorporated. Beat in the orange extract. Use at room temperature.
Candy Clay (as found on Wilton.com)
Ingredients:
1 pkg Candy Melts® (I used white chocolate)
1/3 cup light corn syrup
instructions
Melt Candy Melts following package directions. Add corn syrup and stir to blend.
Turn out mixture onto waxed paper and let set at room temperature to dry.
Wrap well and store at room temperature until needed. Candy Clay handles best if hardened overnight.
To Tint: Candy Clay may be tinted using Wilton Candy or Icing Color. Knead in color until well blended.
To Use: Candy Clay will be very hard at the start; knead a small portion at a time until workable.
If Candy Clay gets too soft, set aside at room temperature or refrigerate briefly.
When rolling out Candy Clay, sprinkle work surface with cornstarch to prevent sticking; roll to approximately 1/8 in. thickness.
To Store: Prepared Candy Clay will last for several weeks at room temperature in a well-sealed container.
