Khatti Dal with Drumstick Leaves Serves: 4 Ingredients For Dal: 3/4 cup masoor dal 3 cups water 1/2 teaspoon oil 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder For Seasoning: 2 teaspoons oil 2 onions, finely chopped 3/4 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon tamarind paste or 1/4 cup tamarind juice or 2 tomatoes ( finely chopped ) 1 cup drumstick leaves 3/4 teaspoon salt to taste Method For Dal: Wash and clean masoor dal. In a big bowl, mix all the ingredients together ( dal, water, oil and turmeric powder ). Cover with a lid and cook on a medium heat for 10 - 15 minutes or till done. For Seasoning: In a wide kadai / frying pan, heat oil. Fry chopped onions till brown.
Add red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Saute on a low heat for 3 - 4 minutes ( till the raw smell goes). Add tamarind paste / juice / chopped onions, boiled dal, drumstick leaves and salt to taste. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 15 minutes.
