Kohlrabi (Noolkol) subji

By spicy turnovers (Visit website)

I usually try to avoid buying kohlrabi (Noolkol - south indian name), since i don't know any interesting recipe except making sambar. Even if i buy, i just get one, planning to finish it off in one day.But when i send my hubby for grocery, he usually buys two or even three of them, guess he likes noolkol very much. I can easily handle one noolkol sitting in my fridge, but 2 or 3 is way too much for me. I don't know what to do and usually it sits in the refrigerator for a very long time. This week was one such week and i had 2 big noolkol in my hand. I searched through the web, hoping to find interesting recipe and i found this one. I changed the recipe little bit. This is a subji that goes well with chapathi.

Things needed :
kohlrabi/noolkol : 2
carrot : 1
onion : 1 med size
tomato : 1
ginger garlic paste : 1 tsp
frozen lima beans : 1/2 cup
curry leaves : 1 sting
turmeric : a pinch
salt : as per taste

To grind :
coconut : 1/4 cup
chilli powder : 1 tsp
corriander powder : 2 tsp
garam masala : 1 tsp
fried gram dhal : 2 tblsp
tomato : 1

Method :
Chop onions, tomatoes and the veggies. Grind the given items into a smooth paste. In a cooker, heat some oil. Add the onions and fry some time then add the GG paste and fry till the raw smell goes. Then add the tomatoes and fry till they turn soft. Now add the paste and turmeric powder and let everything cook for some time. Now add the chopped vegetables, frozen beans, salt and enough water. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 1 whistle. After the pressure is down transfer it to a bowl and garnish with corriander leaves. Serve with chapathis..
