LOTT's of Sunflowers

By a Latte' with Ott, A (Visit website)

It's no secret.  Anyone who remotely knows me, knows.... I like sunflowers.  A lOTT!!!  (Perhaps it is my sunny disposition.  :) joking)  They are my favorite flower.  Did you know sunflowers are heliotropic?  That means they respond to light; throughout the course of the day they will turn their head to follow the light of the sun.  If you have ever driven past a field of sunflowers you will notice that they will all face east in the morning and then by evening they will all be facing west.  I think you could learn a valuable lesson from sunflowers in that; you should always keep you eye on the prize.

Did you also know that the sunflower (latin name; Helianthus annuusare) is a distant relative of Giant Ragweed (latin name; Ambrosia trifida)?  My husband, Ott, E. did his Master's thesis research on Giant Ragweed.  Perhaps that is one of the reasons we have so much in common.  :)  In fact the theme of our wedding was sunflowers.  All the dresses, invitations, programs, napkins and even the cake were selected to coordinate with sunflowers.  Even our party favors were packets of sunflower seeds.

I like sunflowers so much I use them in decorating my living room.  I have sunflower candles, picture frames and pillows.  Why, I even have sunflower dishes in my kitchen.  I plant sunflowers in my garden.  And as you can see I use them to decorate this blog.  So I'll leave you with a thought; Bloom where you're planted and turn your face to the sun.
