Madras Lane, Kuala Lumpur

By Pillow Talk with Bangsar-bAbE (Visit website)

I?ve always wondered how some people can wear their office suits and eat at a hawker stall/coffeeshop. I sure as hell can?t. I was shopping with my girlfriends at the Art for Grabs at Central Market not too long ago, when one of them suggested lunch at Madras Lane.

Curry Laksa

According to her, she goes there for lunch when she was posted for work nearby. I looked at her in disbelief. See, I go to work in casual clothes (sometimes shorts), but she has to wear a formal/smart attire. The place was hot and humid (I don?t get how she can eat there in her office attire), no thanks to the zinc roof. I was sweating, in my shorts and tank top. We quickly ordered some yong tau fu (RM1 per piece) and curry laksa (RM4 per small bowl) before securing a table. The yong tau fu didn?t impress. It was decent, but hardly worth the rave it has gotten from people. At RM1 per piece, I found it slightly pricey as it was quite small in size. The chilli sauce had barely any kick, and the sweet brown sauce was a tad insipid.Curry laksa wasn?t of the creamy kind. It was spicy, fragrant but also slightly watery. I like my curry broth thick, spicy and creamy. The owners were rather unfriendly ? we were hurried to make our orders. It wasn?t even peak period (we ate around 2.30pm), so I didn?t like how pushy they were. Portion was also quite small, for the RM4 price tag.

All in, the food was average. I wouldn?t purposely make my way here for lunch, but if I happen to be nearby, I MIGHT give it another shot.

Ambiance: 3/10
Price: 5/10
Food: 5.5/10 (non-halal)
Verdict: The food was average, really.
