Ingredients for the meatballs
250 minced beef
50 gram bread crumbs
2 beef cubes
1 egg, beaten
1 onion, chopped
50 gram seasoned flour
Vegetable oil
Ingredients for the sauce
4 shallots, thinly sliced
2 garlic, thinly sliced
3 birds eye chilies, chopped (optional)
2 tomatoes, chopped or can be substituted with tomato sauce
2 tablespoons Kikoman soy sauce
2 table spoons Indonesian sweet soy sauce (for substitute: add palm sugar or brown sugar to Kikoman soy sauce)
200 ml water
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Salt and pepper

Preparation:
To prepare the meatballs
Peel the onion and chop very finely
Using your fingers combine the minced beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, beef cube, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
Roll tablespoonful of the mixture into balls then roll the balls in the seasoned flour
Heat the oil in a large pan and the fry the meatballs in batches until golden
Remove from pan, drain on paper towels and set aside.
Drain excess oil and juices from pan
To prepare the sauce
Melt the butter in the pan on medium heat
Sauté the shallots and garlic until fragrant
Add the chilies (if used) and tomatoes, stir
Add Kikoman Soy sauce and Indonesian sweet soy sauce
Add water
Add the nutmeg, salt and pepper
Reduce the heat
Then add the meatballs to the pan, simmer, uncover for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat. Garnish with ready-made fried shallots
Serve warm with rice
