Malabar Koottu Curry

Ingredients 

Diced Yam  ~ 1 cup
Diced plantain ~ 1 cup
Chickpeas ~ ¾ cup
Red chilly powder ~ 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder ~ 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut ~ 1 cup
Green chillies ~ 2-3 Nos
Chopped ginger ~ 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder ~ 1/4 tsp
Pepper powder ~ 1/4 tsp
Dry red chillies ~ 3-4 Nos
Chopped shallots ~ 1/4 cup
Curry leaves ~ 1 stem
Mustard Seeds  
Oil
Salt to taste.

Method

Wash & soak chickpeas in water overnight.Cut yam and plantain to small cubes. Then cook yam and plantain by adding enough water, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt.Pressure cook chickpeas by adding water and salt for about 10 whistles.Then grind grated coconut, green chilies, ginger and cumin powder by adding little water.Then mix ground coconut mix, cooked chickpeas and cooked vegetables and boil in low flame.Heat oil in another pan and add mustard seeds. When it start to crackle add dry red chilies, curry leaves, pepper powder, shallots and saute till the shallots become soft.Then add grated coconut and fry till it become slightly brown in color.Pour it on the curry and mix it well. 
Have with rice.
