Male Bonding
Well it snowed in SC. And it iced. And I got a snow day out of it. Plus, another tomorrow.
This past weekend was spent in Charleston with Stephen. Meals at Stephen?s are always a bit more difficult to create because he doesn?t have a lot of my staples on hand. However, we did manage to whip up a couple of tasty things.
Curried Chickpeas This is becoming one of my favorite go-to meals. All you need are some canned chickpeas and some chopped veggies. Those them on the skillet with some Indian spices, and they?re good to go! Stephen and I picked up some Irish Baked Potato bread at Great Harvest. And dipped it in some herbed olive oil.
Chicken Fingers These were inspired by my mother. She makes the tastiest chicken fingers?they taste like they?re from Chick-fil-A! So Stephen and I prepped them just like my mom does. These turn out so crispy, and 95% of the panko stays on the chicken during the baking process. Stephen refused to eat any of the turnips I roasted. His loss!
Breakfast a la Stephen I asked Stephen to make me fried eggs for breakfast, and he created this pretty plate for me. Served up with a faux latte created in the Breville/Keurig machine Perhaps I miss the coffee maker more than I miss my Stephen?
Saturday afternoon, Stephen and I set out to find the Great Harvest Bread Co in the area. Ever since I shared a piece of this cinnamon raisin bread, he?s been all about getting his hands on some of his own. We found the GHBC but none of the bread we were craving. We did pick up a couple loafs though. Dakota for me and the aforementioned Irish Baked Potato for Stephano. Both good. But honestly, nothing can beat their cinnamon swirl. Turns out, Great Harvest has an interesting neighbor, Menchie?s. I?d never been to this particular chain before, but from what I?ve seen in the blogosphere, it is considered the Mecca of all that is froyo. Stephen and I went in with the intent to purchase a treat. We tasted a couple flavors and just weren?t feeling it. Plain tart is always my fave, but I found it to be too sweet and not enough tart.
Never fear, we found a treat elsewhere. The same shopping center had a Cupcake. Stephen and I split the s?mores and the key lime pie. Both looked delectable, but in reality they were dry and stale. NOT what you?d expect from $3 cupcakes.
Overall, this was a lounging weekend?aren?t all my weekends spent this way? I did manage to get some exercise in, and I had to laugh when I returned from a run and found Stephen and Link engaged in some serious male bonding. Link loves sitting on Diddy?s lap while he plays the PS3. He?s always game for a soft place to lounge.
