Mi Luna: Say "Tapas Bar" Three Times Fast

By The Little Things (Visit website)

Above: Pizza de mariscos - Pizza with shrimp, squid, mussels, basil, pesto and mozzarella. Yes, it looks delicious, but the seafood was overcooked and fishy. Every other dish we sampled, though, was amazing.

It's common knowledge that Rice University folks are all a little off. Maybe the school just doesn't emphasize courses on social normalcy in their curriculum. In spite of the rather odd students that frequent it, Rice Village has a handful of restaurants that every self-respecting foodie in Houston must pilgrimage to at least once in their lives. Next to the Urban Outfitters on University Boulevard you find Mi Luna. This Spanish/Moroccan tapas bar is one of the joints we find ourselves going back to over and over again. The interior decked out like a villa in the south of Spain, and all of the wait staff have a distinct Antonio Banderas accent. In fact, we think they're all named Antonio...even the women.

But architecture and hanging with Zorro aside, Mi Luna has some of the best tapas in Houston.

Above: Mashed, battered and fried potato fingers topped with a sour cream drizzle. Crispy outside with a creamy potato interior and a tart drizzle.
Below: Pinchos marunos - grilled Moroccan lamb kabobs over a bed of couscous.

Below: Kafta - Moroccan style meatballs with green peas. Spicy, smokey with a tang from the tomato base.

Below: B'Stilla - Moroccan chicken pie with cinnamon almonds wrapped in a crisp phyllo dough. Light, flakey with an unexpected sweet-savory combination that works.
