Milk & Honey Cafe

By Bree Eats Chicago (Visit website)

I recently visited Milk & Honey Cafe (1920 W. Division) for breakfast with my pal, Melissa. We arrived at 9am (a bit early for me on a Saturday. OK, it’s a lot early for me on ANY day) and the place was already buzzing. This place is touted as one of the best places for breakfast/brunch in Chicago. I was uber excited since it was the first time I was experiencing this place even though I worked pretty much across the street from it for like 1.5 years!

We took a seat at the  bar in the back after ordering our breakfasts. At Milk & Honey, you order at the counter (usually after waiting in a terribly long and smushed crowded line) and then take a table number back to your seat – if you can find a seat! This place is tiny and it fills up fast….like 9am fast. In the warmer months they have tables outside too, but those are even more coveted, so do yourself a favor, and get there early.

We both ordered the Orange French Toast and were surprised when we received these:

Dear Milk & Honey Cafe,
I am no shy eater. You might say that I can “Put It Away”. Your french toast scares me. It is gigantor and the task of eating it seems insurmountable. My fork seems meager and my knife is afraid of the challenge that lies ahead. Those skimpy orange slices just appear silly next to the textbook think hunks of french toast they sit beside. I got through one of these hunks…almost. It was delicious but there is so much leftover. And what exactly am I supposed to do with that, huh? I can’t very well ask for a to-go container for my smushy-by-the-time-I’d-get-it-home-after-riding-on-two-buses-for-an-hour french toast, now can I? No, I can’t. Perhaps you should encourage people to share this meal? Yes, I think that’s a proper solution.

Ha. It was huge. Like I said, you should definitely split this. And then have some room for BACON. Du-uh!
