Mohegan Sun: Part II

By Carrots 'N' Cake (Visit website)

Dinner at Todd English’s restaurant, Tuscany, was easily the highlight of our trip to Mohegan Sun. Our meal lasted a leisurely 2.5 hours, and it was delicious from beginning to end!

Dinner started with a breadbasket of freshly baked focaccia and a white bean puree and olive tapenade dipping sauce. I ate two pieces of bread with the olive tapenade and a tad of white bean puree.

We totally lucked out with our waitress, Helen. She was such a sweetheart! In addition to being friendly, funny and very attentive, she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Helen listened to each of our wine taste preferences, and then made a number of recommendations, which she brought for each of us to try.

The four of us probably tried 10 different wines before deciding!

I finally chose a Ferrari Carano Siena Sonoma Red Blend.

Winemaker’s description: A beautifully balanced and medium-bodied wine. Siena is supple and ripe with heady fruit aromas of fresh picked red and black berries complemented by cinnamon and mocha. Juicy cherry and raspberry jam flavors are followed by a round, viscous finish of milk chocolate and butterscotch.

Helen definitely knows her stuff! The Siena blend was heavenly! :-D

The ladies ended up ordering red wines while the guys both chose white. Cheers!

Candlelight ambience.

For my entree, I ordered Tuscany’s signature “Tuscan” flatbread, which was prosciutto, fontina, gorgonzola, and rosemary-fig jam on a crisp flatbread.

The Tuscan flatbread was 100% holy yum, but, by this point in the evening, I wasn’t very hungry. I think all of the cheese fries, focaccia, and wine finally settled into my stomach with no room for anything else. Somehow, however, I managed to eat two pieces from the flatbread, and my friends and husband helped me eat the rest. I would have felt terrible wasting 6 pieces!

It was after midnight when we finished our entrees, but our evening was far from over. I ordered a cappuccino to keep my energy up for the late night ahead.

The cap was VERY foamy and creamy! Just the way I like them!

The table finished off our culinary experience by sharing the Pecan Pie Cream Brulee. Mal and Marie are both huge fans of Cream Brulee, so they really wanted to try it… and, of course, I didn’t put up a fight! I ate a couple of bites of the Pecan Pie, which was delectable, but I really couldn’t stomach much more. This was the first time in a long time that I wasn’t able to save room for dessert!

There’s still more to come from our Mohegan Sun trip! :-D
