Monday Morning Musings

By Chic and Green (Visit website)

Looking out the window this morning...

Good morning, friends.

I hope everyone had a wonderful break. We were bitten by the stomach bug and have had at least one sick person in the house since December 26th so it was kind of a long vacation. Everyone is pretty much better and it was so nice to wake up and have a strict routine today.

We had lots and lots of snow coming in off of Lake Ontario this weekend, so I am seeing pillows of white all around me this Monday morning. Nick is back at school, Ben and I were back to our morning coffee/chocolate milk date, and he's playing before preschool this afternoon.

It is frigid and a bit gray and it's January in upstate New York, but I am feeling incredibly upbeat and rejuvenated these days. I am feeling very optimistic about this new decade. The first decade of the 21st century was full of both the most joyous and the most painful moments in my life. 2010 is going to be a wonderful year.

I want you all to do me a favor. I would like you to think about your life right now. Is there something you have always wanted to do but have doubted whether it could be a reality? Do you have a passion you've been squelching?

I have a friend who is incredibly talented with her needle and thread. She's a fabulous photographer as well. One who wants to be a beekeeper. I have another who has thought about recording an album. Another who is a fantastic, funny writer...

I want them all--and you--to just say "I am going to try this out for me." I get it. I know how it is when you spend your days taking care of others, tackling the daily grind, just going through the motions at times. You tell yourself, "someday" not knowing if you'll ever get to it. Do it now. Always follow your heart. I have learned so much about that--taking time for yourself and listening to your heart. Believe me when I tell you that you will be even happier--even if you're happy to begin with.

What's Ahead This Week

*I have lots of reader questions to tackle. I get lots of emails ranging from skin care recommendations to questions about buying handmade and natural products for the home. If you've emailed, you'll know I answer you back as soon as I can. I am going to answer some reader questions right here on the blog beginning tomorrow:

From Andrea in CA: She'd like me to share what I use before I go to bed on hair/skin

From Julie in LA: She asked me to look at some Lush skin care and talk about the ingredients.

From Carrie in MA: She would like to know what I recommend for children's skin

From Jen in FL: She asks what books and magazines I am reading now that I have free time.

I am also super excited this week because we're having company! My brother-in-law and his family (a wife and two boys, ages 2 and 5) will be coming in from Colorado and staying with us for several days. We are very excited. We haven't seen Zach since last October when he was on a mid tour "break" from his second Iraq deployment. It will be wonderful to get together again for a post-Christmas celebration.

Have a wonderful week!
